| Chema and Isabel |
Many are the breeders and mounters of Leon. But
few those that enjoy the recognition and prestige of the most
demanding fishermen. Chema and Isabel are a charming marriage
that live by and for the roosters. Their total dedication, their
meticulous work, their good one for making and their great experience have
like fruit of the best and purer races of leonine roosters. You
can be passed hours contemplating the beauty of the mallets of pens
that Chema and his wife will teach to us in their house.
On the other hand, wet flies that artisan mount Chema and
Isabel gathers all the wisdom that the parents have transmitted
of generation in generation. Those unalterable assemblies have
stayed effective throughout the years. Used silks
continue being "Guttermann", and some of the color numerations are
really difficult to obtain. If to this we united the excellent
pens of thier hen house the result is unbeatable.
When Chema was 14 years old he let study. The river provided to him a
form to make money: he was dedicated to fish to sell the
trouts to the restaurants of the zone. People also requested
flies to him, but as it as much cost to him to do them and he
made so coarse, single he did few for the friends. When
marrying, and without having other resources, Isabel and Chema
decided to make wet flies to sell them. With the aid of
Isabel the preparation of the flies improved enough. Isabel
elaborates the body and Chema puts the pen to the fly. Nowadays
Chema just fishing for his enjoyment, practicing habitually
the catch and release.
Thus Chema describes as his passion by the fishing began:
"My memory of childhood always goes bound to the river,
from very small already took my father to me to fish with him.
I fished with a bamboo rod and put many flies. When I was 6
or 7 years old already began to fish, my father commanded to me with the
cows and I escaped to the river to fish. I remember that in that
time there was many trouts. I began to make my flies to the
12 years, with Juan Esteban, my teacher and the best fisherman with
wet fly who I have known. As much it as the good fishermen
of the zone (Fernando from La Vecilla, Felix and Severino from La
Candana, Dorino from Sopeña) influenced in me. All of them good
mounters who of course based their assembly on the numerations of the
Guttermann silks and the pen of La Candana. Nowadays my
assembly continues being based on many of the numerations that they
already used in those years. And it is peculiar, spend the
years and those same combinations are those that better results give
in all the rivers of Spain."

When we arrived at the Candana we hear the sound
of the roosters. Anybody we ask will know to
indicate to us by the Chema's house . When arriving we will not be
able there to avoid one healthy one envies: a calm home in which
note that a fisherman lives, the beautiful roosters next to the house
and the wonderful so single Curueño river with crossing the street.
Once within the house, as much Chema as Isabel will make finery
of their amiability and friendly treatment. In a small room
decorated with diverse reasons for fishing we will be able to
contemplate to the mallets of pens and the wet flies that we come
to look for... we would got everything!
All the saying until now is not gratuitous publicity.
Proof of it is the national recognition that Chema has and the
demand of his presence in fair and other events related to the
fishing.
For years the City council of La Vecilla it has
been coming organizing a pen fair, where all the breeders
and mounters of the region expose all their products. Thanks to
this it has obtained that there is but union between the craftsmen and
an association of breeders has formed.
At personal level Chema has participated and competed in the
International Week of the Trout, in the Sea Trout Competition in
Asturias and other competitions in which their flies have made him be
between the best ones. In addition also he has been invited to
numerous events related to the fishing, like the International
Encounter of the Najerilla, in which it has left to patent his good
one for doing like fisherman, breeder of roosters and mounter of
wet flies.
